M.O.P.T Announces Exciting News for Grand Bassa and the Southeast: Liberia’s Second Submarine Internet Cable is on the Way!

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is thrilled to announce the commencement of the initial site assessment for Liberia’s second submarine cable, which will land in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. This vital infrastructure project aims to enhance the country’s digital connectivity and resilience.

In 2024, Liberia experienced a significant internet blackout due to a submarine cable cut, which left the nation completely disconnected from global digital networks. While neighboring countries such as Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria maintained their connectivity through multiple fiber redundancies, Liberia’s isolation underscored the urgent need for improved internet infrastructure.

In response to this challenge, the Ministry has made it a top priority to secure a second submarine cable, which is essential for ensuring internet resilience and fostering digital transformation across Liberia.

Introducing the Amílcar Cabral Cable

We are excited to announce that our funding proposal to the World Bank Group has been approved, paving the way for the Amílcar Cabral Cable to land in Buchanan. This project will directly benefit the people of Grand Bassa and the Southeast by establishing a robust fiber-optic network that will significantly boost economic activities and enhance digital connectivity in the region.

Site Selection Progress

During our assessment, we identified five potential landing sites along Buchanan’s coastline, including:

• Small Fanti Town
• Big Fanti Town
• Upper Buchanan
• Mother/Reverend Dukuly Memorial Site
• Additional strategic locations

The Ministry is committed to working closely with stakeholders, engineers, and development partners to finalize the landing site and prepare for the deployment of this critical infrastructure.

Mr. Joke-Ass, we understand how excited you are to be employed into government, and on the overall do the work as you were instructed: to take jobs from qualified Liberians and replace them with your partisans who do not have interest in going to school. And, of course, you’re right, Liberia will not be the same way in these years due to the level of hate the President is dishing out through you. Now, there are more security concerns about Liberia than it has been ever been due to the handling of this inept government led by an old pop star. The economy under your administration is overly stink. Go to market centers and randomly ask people. Parents are unable to pay school fees for their kids because a funny man with pink socks has taken them out of work demonically. You see, this is why Liberia will never be the same under this administration. Because when the people are fed up, obviously, Liberia will not be the same.
