NEC Liberia Begins First Phase of Local Government Subdivision Confirmation in Southeast Liberia

The National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia), through its Geo-Information Services (GIS) Section, has commenced the first phase of confirming areas within various local government subdivisions across three Southeastern counties - Maryland, Grand Kru, and Sinoe.

This exercise aims to validate the inventory and locality composition of all political subdivisions, forming a critical foundation for the upcoming Boundary Delimitation Review Process.

The confirmation process brings together key local and national stakeholders, including District Superintendents, Commissioners, Mayors, Paramount Chiefs, Township Commissioners, Clan Chiefs, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Liberia Land Authority, and the Liberia Institute of Geo-Information Services (LIGIS).

The outcomes of this field activity will support the creation of accurate and up-to-date administrative boundary and locality datasets, essential for managing electoral operations effectively.

These updated datasets will guide:

The reapportionment of constituencies,
The establishment of new and placement registration centers,
The delineation of voting precincts,
The conduct of chieftaincy elections, and
Preparations for the 2029 General Elections.
