1 inch and 3/4 inch chippings size are good for foundation and decking, especially 1 inch. it gives a strong backbone to carry load and reduces too much consumption of cement and sand.

3/4 mixed with 1/2 chippings size are good for columns, beams and lintels. it reduces honeycomb.

3/8 is use for casting parapets and moulded features or where smoother surface is needed.

Don't mix place any of this chippings sizes.
