Amaechi Muonagor was born on 20 August 1962 in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria, and passed away on 24 March 2024 at the age of 62 .
Career Highlights
He began his career at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) before transitioning to acting. His debut role came in Taboo 1 (1989), and he went on to star in iconic Nollywood films such as Igodo (1999), Aki na Ukwa (2002), and Aki and Pawpaw (2021) .
Recognition
He was celebrated for his versatility—bringing life to characters ranging from wise chiefs to witty comedic roles. His performance in Aki na Ukwa earned him a nomination for Best Actor in Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2017 .
Health and Illness
Over the years, Muonagor faced serious health challenges—including diabetes and stroke in 2023 that led to partial paralysis of his left side . He publicly appealed for help, particularly to fund a kidney transplant, as he battled kidney failure and was undergoing dialysis .
Passing & Legacy
Amaechi Muonagor passed away on March 24, 2024, due to complications from kidney failure . His memorial service and burial in Obosi drew prominent figures, including Peter Obi, paying tribute to his impact on Nollywood and beyond .
