Subtile

Our installation is ready, and our space now welcomes the enigmatic photographs of Serge Piccard — especially the series Aux bords du monde.

In this in-between world of land and sea, he explores with remarkable subtlety the nuances of grey, the stability of space always enclosed within a firm frame, carefully organized around the horizon, in perfect respect of the classical rules of composition.

The almost painterly texture of these photographs is striking, and the choice of dark wooden frames further enhances this atmosphere, immersing us in a very different vision of Brittany, the artist’s native land — far removed from the bright and familiar imagery usually associated with the region.

His images place us at the edge of romanticism, suspended in an infinitely slow and weighty time, animated only by the pale light of winter.

Opening this Thursday 7 May in presence of the artist.
