The main reason for this is the congestion of terminals, which do not have enough space to receive a huge amount of cargo.
The introduction of new technologies of cargo handling and logistics can solve this problem only partly, and for many ports it is no longer an effective measure.
The solution to this problem may be the development of "dry ports", which are widely used in international practice.

What is a dry port?

A dry port or logistics hub is a multimodal logistics center with developed infrastructure that allows an owner of a cargo to use all the benefits of a seaport on land.

Dry ports are created in order to make the process of cargo transportation faster and to make it easy to deliver their products to the market. They also provide an opportunity for companies to transport their goods by truck, which is often more cost-effective than transportation by waterways.
