Amid Earthquake Crisis, Military Junta Airstrikes Chaung-U

(Mizzima) – While people were struggling with the aftermath of a powerful earthquake today (March 28), the military junta launched an airstrike on Nwal Hwe village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, according to the Chaung-U People’s Defense Force (PDF).

At around 7:40 PM on March 28, the military carried out two aerial bombings using a Tatmadaw jet fighter from the Northwestern Military Command, a spokesperson from the Chaung-U PDF reported.

"There were no casualties. The dictatorship will continue its attacks regardless of the situation, solely to maintain its power. That’s why the people must continue to resist until the regime is completely eradicated," the spokesperson said.

The powerful earthquake that struck today caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of buildings, temples, and pagodas in Naypyidaw, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Eastern and Northern Shan State, and Bago Region. Several casualties have also been reported.
