📌 Accidental Foam Discharge Covers Spirit Airlines Hangar and Aircraft at Detroit Metro On July 4, 2025, the fire suppression system at Spirit Airlines' maintenance hangar at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) was accidentally triggered. The system released a massive amount of foam, flooding the 126,000-square-foot hangar and spilling onto the adjacent ramp due to open hangar doors. It is believed that a lightning strike near the hangar caused the inadvertent activation. Two aircraft inside the hangar (an Airbus A321 and an Airbus A320) and three aircraft parked just outside were affected. While there were no injuries reported and no fire, the planes had to be taken out of service for extensive inspection. Spirit Airlines confirmed the accidental activation and stated they are working with a contractor for cleanup efforts.
