What rituals are to be done as per Sunnah and Islamic tradition for a new born baby?

Answer

There are certain rituals associated with child birth which are as follows: (1) After birth the Azaan should be recited in the child’s ear. (2) A tiny piece of date should be chewed well by the father or any pious person and then rubbed on the baby’s gum. (3) On the seventh day, the naming of the child should take place. On the same day his or her head should be shaved and the hair weighed. The equivalent of the hair in silver (l.e the cost of that weight of silver) should be given away in charity to the poor. (5) If the family can afford It, preferably on the same day, a goat or lamb should be distributed to the poor, family and friends in what is referred to as Aqeeqah. It is Sunnah to sacrifice two lambs if the child is a boy and one lamb if the child is a girl.
