CAF disqualifies Zimpeto Stadium

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified Zimpeto National Stadium from hosting international football matches due to multiple issues found during inspections in February. As a result, the Mozambican national team, the Mambas, will have to play abroad. The Mozambican Football Federation has until March 7 to propose an alternative venue, with South Africa being the most likely option.

Over 1,100 inmates still missing after prison breaks in Maputo province

The whereabouts of more than 1,100 inmates who escaped from prisons in Maputo province remain unknown.

The number includes prisoners from the Maputo Provincial Penitentiary, the Machava Maximum Security Penitentiary, commonly known as "BO" and the Manhiça District Penitentiary.

A total of 1,622 inmates broke out from these three facilities during the post-election protests that erupted in the country. Of these, 1,534 escaped from the Maputo Provincial and Maximum Security Penitentiaries alone.

During the rebellion at the Maputo Provincial Penitentiary, 33 people lost their lives, and 15 others were injured.

Evelina Gomane, the Chief Prosecutor of Maputo Province, stated that the Public Prosecutor's Office is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the prison breaks, including the deaths.
