HOW PAST PERFECT IS USED

* The past perfect is used in the part of the sentence that explain the condition.
* Most often, the reason to write a verb in the past perfect tense is to show that the action happened before the other action in the same sentence that are described by verbs in the simple past tense.
EXAMPLES
Had met
Had left
Had written
Had wanted.

(1) She had met him before the party.
(2) The plane had left by the time I got to the airport.
(3) I had written the email before he apologised.
(4) Kate had wanted to see the movie, but she did not have money for the ticket.
