If you’re not financially stable yet, want to build for the family, then it’s prudent you build something just enough to solve the housing needs of your family. Building laterally is always cheaper than building vertical.

A 4-bedroom house can be built as a single storey (Bungalow) or a 2 storey (Abansro).
Note that, both houses are 4 bedrooms, and will literally serve the same purpose(s).
However, the cost difference between the two houses is so significant that, the balance can start another foundation for a lateral house.

If you go vertical, you’re likely to break the bank, and still not finish. Even if you finish, it’ll only solve the same problem the lateral house would solve. So why stress yourself so much about going vertical (when you’re not financially stable )?

In worst cases, you’ll compromise on building standards. You’ll use 14mm rods instead of 16 or 18mm, and use N grade cement instead of 42.5r. You’re always on the lookout for ways to cut corners.
The result of this approach will be;
1. The house wont be nice as expected
2. The structure will look frail
3. It’ll take you forever to complete the project

Ripple effect, you’ll move in after the first floor, with hopes that you’ll continue later, but the later never comes.
The slab will soak up rain water for years, and the whole base of the house will start looking wretched, with Algae becoming your flat mate.
The slabs will start leaking, and It’ll affect your ceilings and many other things.
So WHY ?

Is it because lands are scarce ?
Well, if you built a 4bedroom storey for your family of 3, you’ve only solved the housing needs of 3 people and not 6 people. Each person in that family will still go out in search of lands to build their own homes.
By the time they are in our prime, those houses won’t look nice to them. How much of a nice storey building can a financially impaired person build?
So why not build something which, if it must be renovated or broken down, will be easier ?

If you have too much money now..
How much of a difference can you make to an existing old 3 storey building?
How much of a difference can you make to an existing old 3 bedroom bungalow?

Ps: This is for those who don’t have too much money.
