Here's what the inspector is looking for:

They'll ask you to turn on your lights and signals while they walk around the car.

If your turn signal blinks faster than normal, that's a dead bulb, instant inspection fail.

No warnings.

Don't let a simple bulb put you in danger (or fail you on test day).

Check all your lights today, before the next downpour.

If your brake pads are below 2-3mm, or rotors are cracked or warped, you will fail safety inspection.

The inspector looks through the wheel, if they see metal backing plate touching rotor, it's an automatic fail. No "they still stop okay."

On wet roads, thin pads mean your stopping distance doubles.

That's the difference between a close call and a collision.
