Here are some of the reasons why crawling is important:
❗It makes shoulders, hips and core muscles strong.
❗It develops the arches of hand. Compare your palm to your baby’s palm. The arches and curves in your palm are needed for handwriting later on. Baby’s hands tend to be flatter and fatter!
❗Crawling works the two sides of the body together - we all need to be able to use both sides of the body at the same time. Imagine trying to drive without being able to do that!
❗Crawling develops balance
❗Crawling is important for hip and neck development.
❗Helps to develop spatial awareness and visual perceptual skills such as depth perception
❗It helps the eyes and hands work together in eye hand coordination.
❗It helps develop body awareness and improve motor planning.

Crawling is also important and valuable for older children who are already walking and running around. So why not build some tunnels to get them crawling too!
