RECLAIMING THE FUTURE OF THE NIGERIAN CHILD
On this occasion of Children’s Day, I extend my warm greetings to every child in Anambra South, across Anambra State, and throughout Nigeria.
Today is a day of colour, joy, and celebration. But beyond the smiles and festivities, we must confront a deeper question: what future are we preparing for the Nigerian child?
Our children are growing up in a world driven by knowledge, technology, creativity, and innovation. Yet too many of them still lack access to quality education, digital skills, personal security, and the opportunities required to compete with their peers across the world. A Children’s Day message becomes meaningful only when it is matched with deliberate investment in the child’s education, safety, dignity, and future.
As an industrialist who has spent decades building businesses and creating jobs, I understand that sustainable development begins with human capital. For more than a decade, I have supported children through scholarships because I believe that no child’s future should be buried by poverty, neglect, or circumstance. Every child deserves a fair chance to dream, learn, grow, and succeed.
To me, politics is not a platform for empty promises. It is a responsibility to build systems that our children and grandchildren can inherit with pride. It is about strengthening education, expanding opportunities, protecting families, and creating a society where talent is not wasted and hope is not destroyed.
Let this Children’s Day remind us that the greatest legacy we can leave is not the noise of today’s politics, but the quality of tomorrow’s citizens. We owe our children a Nigeria where their dreams can rise, their talents can flourish, and their future can be secured.
Happy Children’s Day to all our children.
Signed,
Ebuka Onunkwo
