I once visited my cousin, Chioma, who had just closed down her small business after struggling to keep it afloat for over a year.

She had invested her time, energy, and savings into opening a shop, but things just didn’t go as planned.

As we sat in their living room, she sighed, “Onyi, I feel like such a failure. Everyone else seems to be doing well, and here I am, back at square one. My husband will be so disappointed by me.”

Her words hit me because they reminded me of how so many of us feel when things don’t go as expected; like we are the only ones facing setbacks, while others are soaring ahead.

But the truth is, failure is part of everyone’s journey, and it often comes before success.

I looked at Chioma and said,

Do you remember how I started my first business?

I thought I had it all figured out, but it flopped within months. I poured everything into it, but the market wasn’t right, and I didn’t have the right strategies in place.

I felt crushed, too.

But guess what?

That failure taught me lessons I couldn’t have learned any other way.

It prepared me for the next opportunity.

Chioma nodded, but I could see the doubt still lingered.

So, I shared more stories, stories of famous entrepreneurs who failed several times before they hit it big.

I reminded her that every success story has chapters filled with mistakes, wrong turns, and moments of despair.

It is in those moments that we learn the most.

Failure shows us what doesn’t work, and it forces us to adapt, grow, and come back stronger.

It’s like refining gold, it has to go through fire to shine.

After a while, she smiled, a glimmer of hope returning to her eyes. “Maybe I needed this,” she said, “to rethink my approach, understand my strengths, and plan better for the future.”

Failure is not the end; it’s just a stepping stone on the path to success.

It is okay to stumble, fall, and feel like you are starting over.

What matters is that you don’t stay down.

Each setback is an opportunity to get up, dust yourself off, and keep going.

For anyone feeling like they have failed, remember that you are not alone.

Failure is not a dead end.

It is a detour that brings you closer to where you are meant to be.

Embrace it, learn from it, and use it as fuel to power your next move.

Success may not come immediately, but it will come.

Have a beautiful Monday and a Blessed week ahead.
