A 14-year-old girl, Miss Nancy Peter, has died in Wula Community, Boki Local Government Area, following an alleged case of assault, the Cross River State Police Command has confirmed.
According to community reports, the incident occurred after the child was handed over to a pastor by her mother for “disciplinary purposes.” The development reportedly sparked outrage among residents, with local leaders said to have handed the pastor over to police. There are also claims that the mother is currently unaccounted for, while tensions remain around the church premises.
In an incident report released by the Cross River State Police Command, it said the suspect is currently in custody and a thorough investigation is ongoing into the death of Miss Nancy Peter.
Preliminary findings by the police indicate that:
1. The victim was allegedly beaten by her mother, Mrs. Agnes Peter, 45, over allegations of theft.
2. The mother later took the child to Pastor Samson Roman D**o, 43, who allegedly subjected her to further corporal punishment with a cane, locally called “koboko”.
3. The minor reportedly became unconscious and was rushed to a medical facility in Wula Community, where she was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The police said relevant medical examinations and investigative procedures are ongoing to ascertain all facts. The Command also addressed social media claims alleging sexual assault, stating that at this stage, investigations have not established evidence to substantiate such claims.
“Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the police statement read.
The Cross River State Police Command is yet to issue a detailed public statement as investigations continue.

Thank you, Governor Bassey Otu
The 28km Boki East–West Road is a Cross River State Government project with a budget allocation of ₦11.5 billion under the administration of Governor Bassey Otu.
Although this important road project was a long-standing dream of former Governor Ben Ayade, it is Governor Otu's administration that has provided the funding and commenced construction.
While the people of Boki and Cross River State remain grateful for this progress, it is also important to ask: why does a major road project of this scale, with ₦11.5 billion allocated to it, appear to have no drainage system?
Will the road stand the test of time without proper drainage infrastructure?
