On Wednesday 2nd/ October/2024 we made a visit to four Primary Schools in Dutse Local Government under Bridge The Gap Initiative (BGI), a non profit Organization founded by Bashir Abdulhayat Auyakawa and Saifullah Attahir. We were ably honoured by Yusha'u Ibrahim for the visit. The villages visited are; Sumore PS (Primary School), Bakin jeji PS, Hammayayi PS, and Katangar Lafiya PS.

The aim of BGI was to fill the information and support gap that hinders many people from achieving their goals in life. We educate students on how to makes the right carrier choices while seeking higher education. We educate pupils on how to identify their talents and have a knowledge on the 21st Century skills. We also empowered youths on soft skills to navigate the labour market. In summary BGI aims to bridge the information gap that was the bottleneck to our overall development.

We were happily received by those Schools, we observed the conditions of the schools and that of the Pupils. Although some of these schools have high turn out, but we unfortunately observed decline in enrollment in some classes, the excuses were the harvesting period, but there may be a deeper answer to that.

I was astonished by the level of commitment shown by the teachers many of whom travelled several miles to attend those remote areas, some even trekked. Teaching job especially to Primary and Junior schools was entirely not an easy matter and coupled with the current economic situation.

People need to start giving back to their communities no matter how little. We no longer need to depend entirely on Government to solve all our problems. Each and everyone of us has a contribution to make to help sustain these very schools that were once our shelter and root.
