The Rivers State Government, through the Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, has met with the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, following concerns over alleged child rights violations involving an autistic child.

The government said the actions, though carried out in good faith, were not in line with existing state laws. The cleric has, however, agreed to comply with legal requirements, including proper registration and approval processes for handling minors.

The meeting, held in Port Harcourt, had in attendance representatives of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Rivers State Branch, alongside top officials of the Ministry, who emphasized the need to uphold child protection laws and proper welfare procedures.

Apostle Chinyere admitted he was unaware of some of the legal provisions guiding the care of minors and assured authorities of his readiness to correct the identified lapses and work closely with the Ministry going forward.
