‎Topic: The New Jerusalem (5)

‎Text: Revelations 22:5

‎_“There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”_ NIV

‎*Study*
‎Though our key verse today has been treated in other verse studies, it is pertinent to emphasize that in the New Jerusalem, there will be no need for lamp or the light of the sun, for GOD will be the light everyone needs, to see his way, to create heat or grow plants.
‎
‎"There will be no more night" signifies the total removal of darkness, whether darkness in its literal meaning, metaphorical or spiritual, in the New Jerusalem.
‎
‎The night time is a season of fear, perpetuation of evil, uncertainty, little or no productivity. Sometimes, it is a declaration of defeat.
‎
‎Can you create a mental picture of what it would look like living daily with no night to look out for?
‎
‎This means the idea of the human-kind of rest is taken away, as believers will perpetually stay in the state of GOD.
‎
‎When GOD rested on the seventh day, it did not result in the removal of light for a period (night time) for HIM for HE is constantly LIGHT.
‎
‎For man, on earth here, our rest from sun scorching, toiling, need physical body rest which needs the light of the day to be removed- night.
‎
‎But in the New Jerusalem, there will be no toiling, no need for different seasons, no sun, because all things will constantly be in LIGHT- GOD.
‎
‎The symbol of darkness in the Bible is sin, evil, and separation from GOD (John 3:19-21). So, the absence of night (darkness) indicates the full presence of GOD, where sin and every for of evil or weakness cannot exist.
‎
‎This is in tandem with the prophecy in Isaiah 60:19-20, where GOD promises to be an everlasting light for HIS people.
‎
‎"and they will reign forever and ever" shows the eternal reign of the redeemed along with CHRIST, fulfilling the promise made to believers that they will share in CHRIST's authority and reign (2 Timothy 2:12, Revelation 3:21).
‎
‎Therefore, there will be a restoration of the dominion which was initially intended for humanity in Genesis 1:26-28 before the Fall. Praise the LORD for this restoration.

In the scheme of things where The Blessing is appropriated, one can only rejoice because the expected end will be good-
"...and the God saw that it was good..." Genesis 1:4 and others.
