HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY, ZAMFARA!

As we mark 26 years of uninterrupted democracy in our dear country Nigeria, the African Action Congress (AAC), Zamfara State Chapter, extends warm greetings to the resilient people of Zamfara.

June 12 is not just a date on the calendar it is a reminder of the power of the people and the long journey towards justice, equity, and freedom. It is a day to reflect on our progress, acknowledge our struggles, and recommit ourselves to the principles of participatory governance.

Zamfara, like many parts of Nigeria, has faced its share of hardship poverty, insecurity, and political neglect. But even in the face of these challenges, our people remain strong, hopeful, and determined for change.

The AAC stands with you. We believe in a new Nigeria where leadership is people-centered, where the rights and dignity of every citizen are upheld, and where democracy truly delivers for the masses not just the elites.

On this Democracy Day, we urge all Zamfarawa to remain vigilant, to speak truth to power, and to actively participate in building the future we deserve. Real democracy goes beyond elections it is about justice, accountability, and equal opportunity for all.

A Call to Zamfara State Youth: Addressing the Concerns of African Action Congress on Governance and Youth Representation

The African Action Congress (AAC) has expressed deep concerns about the state of youth involvement in governance in Zamfara State. Over the years, youth representation, which should be a cornerstone for progress and innovation, has been marred by inefficiency and self-interest. The AAC is calling on the youth of Zamfara to reflect, reform, and redefine their role in governance for the betterment of the state and its future.

Youth Representation Under Governor Bello Matawalle

During the tenure of Governor Bello Matawalle, there was a significant effort to involve youth in governance. However, this effort yielded mixed results. While many saw this as a golden opportunity to empower young people and drive change, only 30% of youth representatives utilized their positions for the benefit of the public. These individuals focused on projects that improved communities, created opportunities, and fostered development.

On the other hand, a staggering 70% of youth representatives failed to rise to the occasion. This group was more interested in personal gains, engaging in corrupt practices, and neglecting the responsibilities entrusted to them. Their actions not only hindered progress but also tarnished the image of youth in governance, reducing trust and confidence in young leaders.

Youth Representation Under Governor Dauda Lawal Dare

The current administration of Governor Dauda Lawal Dare has shown some improvement, with 70% of youth representatives taking their roles seriously and contributing positively to the state's development. However, the remaining 30% have failed to meet expectations, continuing the trend of inefficiency, lack of accountability, and poor leadership.

The AAC believes that while progress has been made, it is not enough. The failure of even a fraction of youth representatives to deliver on their mandates is a disservice to the people of Zamfara and a betrayal of the trust placed in them.

The Way Forward: AAC's Call to Action

The African Action Congress calls on the youth of Zamfara State to take the following steps to ensure that their involvement in governance becomes a force for good:

1. Redefine Leadership Values: Youth must prioritize integrity, accountability, and a commitment to serving the people. Governance is not a means for personal enrichment but a platform to uplift communities and drive sustainable development.

2. Reject Corruption and Nepotism: The AAC urges youth to reject any form of corruption or favoritism. Instead, they should advocate for transparency and fairness in all aspects of governance.

3. Educate and Empower Themselves: Youth need to invest in education, leadership training, and capacity building. Knowledge and skills are critical to making informed decisions and implementing effective policies.

4. Unite for Common Goals: The youth of Zamfara must come together, regardless of political affiliations, to push for reforms that will benefit the state as a whole. Division only weakens their collective power to bring about change.

5. Hold Leaders Accountable: Both current and aspiring leaders must be held accountable for their actions. The AAC encourages youth to demand transparency and results from their representatives.

AAC's Vision for Youth in Governance

The African Action Congress envisions a future where youth are the drivers of progress in Zamfara State. The party is committed to providing platforms for young people to lead and excel. AAC believes that by fostering a culture of accountability, integrity, and innovation, youth can transform governance in Zamfara into a model for other states to emulate.

It is time for the youth of Zamfara to rise above the failures of the past, learn from their mistakes, and seize the opportunity to create a brighter future. The AAC stands ready to support this journey toward a more prosperous and inclusive Zamfara State.

The future is in your hands—be the change Zamfara needs!

African Action Congress (AAC) Statement on Armed Forces Remembrance Day
15th January 2025, Zamfara State

Today, we join millions of Nigerians to honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the sovereignty, unity, and security of our beloved nation. Armed Forces Remembrance Day is not only a time to reflect on their sacrifices but also to reaffirm our commitment to supporting those who continue to serve and the families of our fallen heroes.

In Zamfara State, we particularly acknowledge the tireless efforts of our armed forces in combating banditry, insurgency, and other security challenges that have plagued the region. Their courage and dedication have brought hope to communities and demonstrated the resilience of the Nigerian spirit in the face of adversity.

As a party, the African Action Congress (AAC) reiterates our unwavering support for the welfare of our military personnel, veterans, and their families. We call on the government at all levels to prioritize adequate funding, training, and equipment for our armed forces to ensure they can effectively fulfill their mandate of securing lives and properties.

We also emphasize the need for a holistic approach to addressing the root causes of insecurity in Zamfara State and beyond. This includes promoting good governance, equitable development, and community engagement to foster lasting peace and stability.

As we remember our heroes today, let us renew our collective resolve to build a Nigeria where justice, peace, and progress prevail. Their sacrifices must not be in vain.

We salute our heroes and heroines. May their bravery continue to inspire us all.
