The name shiitake comes from the Japanese word “shii”, the name of the tree it first grew on, and “take”, which stands for mushroom.

Shiitake mushrooms are knows to go bad quickly. If you notice any slimy brown or dark spots, then it means the mushrooms are decaying and shouldn’t be bought.
