Residents of Musawa Local Government Area in Katsina State are fleeing their homes in panic after fresh bandit attacks that left at least three people dead, several others injured, and thousands of livestock rustled.

The attackers struck in broad daylight on Sunday, April 5, surrounding communities, shooting sporadically for hours, looting shops and burning properties. In Jikamshi, the second-largest town in Musawa, at least five people were killed, about 10 others shot, and 10 shops raided with over ₦10 million cash and goods carted away. In nearby Sabon garingan, two mobile police officers were killed while responding to a distress call on Tuesday evening.

Musa Lawal, a resident who lost all his livestock said: “I lost all my livestock to bandits. All I know in life is livestock, and now I have nothing.” Residents lamented the lack of security response despite repeated calls for help, with many now living in constant fear. “We don’t sleep anymore. Any sound sends us running,” one said.

The attacks have shattered a fragile peace accord in the area, leaving hundreds displaced and communities in trauma.
