*COMPREHENSIVE EXPLANATION ON VIRTUES OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJA.*

Jottings at Adabul Mufrad Class with Shaykh Abu Naasir Ep. 391. Sun. 27th Dhul Qa'da,1446. 25th May, 2025.

The months with Allah are twelve. He created the months. He also told us how to start a month and end it. We sight the moon to start the month, we also end it when we sight the moon. The new moon emerges from a part of the horizon and the one exiting in another horizon, all are from the signs of Allah. He has made the months virtuous more than another. Like we do say about Ramadan.

As for the first ten days of Dhul-hijjah, they are the best ten days on earth. This Hadith is so clear cut. "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." No days of the year has benefits, rewards for the people than the first ten days of Dhul-hijja. Don't you see that Allah spoke about those days in Suratul Fajr [ وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ ] "By the ten nights". It refers to the first ten days of Dhul-hijja.

Allah says, 'Wal Fajr, walayālin ashr' I swear by the dawn, the time it breaks, that is, the beginning of daytime. Allah created them, He alone can vow with them to show how virtuous they are. Allah also make a vow with the first ten days of Dhul-hijja, Ibn Kathir said, it can also mean the ten nights. It's talking about the days and night of Dhul-hijja.

The Prophet said, “There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days” [ibn Majah]

If you do good in them, Allah likes them better than even last ten days of Ramadan. Some scholars have looked into it, there is difference between the two. In terms of daytime, the first ten days of Dhul-hijjah are better because it also includes the day of 'arafa but in terms of night time, the last ten nights of Ramadan are better because it has laylatul Qadr in it. That is the view of many scholars.

Some other Scholars said, whether daytime or night time, its days are better than the days and night of Ramadan, why? we were told laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand month, does that means it is the best? If Laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand months, that of Dhul hijja is better than that. That tells us the virtue of Dhul-hijjah. I hope it's clear. That is what I consider stronger. It says it's the best ten days. The prophet said to us "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." Allah also made vow with it in Suratul Fajr.

Many people are nonchalant of the virtues of Dhul-hijjah. They are oblivious, they forget themselves. The students of knowledge have a duty to explain the virtues of these first ten days of Dhul-hijjah to the people. They have a duty to announce, publicize the virtues, and this is what we are doing.

*HOW TO GET PREPARED AND WHAT TO DO IN IT.*

We should be ready for it (the first ten days) with a lot of Ibādah. How do we get prepared for it, we are just three days away to complete 30days (of Dhul qa'da), today is 27th of Dhul qa'da. Everybody should begin to get ready, prepared and focused.

1) The first thing we should have in mind is making genuine and sincere tawbah. Each one of us, everybody should return to Allah, asking for His forgiveness and pardon, and show deep penitence.

Like Al-Imam Ibn Rajab said, "Avoid commiting sins, because in the periods of Allah showing mercy to people, your sins will hold you back."

You see people in Ramadan, the first day they read the Qur'ān a lot, but by third day they have dropped it. They were held back by their sins. So, don't come to this period with loads of sins, it will prevent you, you will want to make nawafil you will not be able to do it because before the month comes, you are already loaded with sins.

Hence, before the period comes, we should ask for forgiveness so we won't be held down by sins. Let each and every one of us start to think of our sins and shortcomings.

In one of our classes, we talked about Sayyidul Istighfar. I hope that we remember. "Allahumma anta rabbi la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa wa'dika ma istata'tu, a'udhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u laka bini'matika 'alayya wa abu'u laka bidhanbi, faghfir li, fa'innahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta"

Anyone who says it in the morning believing in it and passes away before evening, he will enter Jannah. If he says it in the night believing in it and passes away in the morning, he will enter Jannah.

Ikhwah, let us quickly begin NOW, let's begin to make genuine Tawbah. If you are upon something Allah prohibited, drop it now, determine never to go back to it, seek forgiveness. Say, 'Astaghfirullah Al-adheem alladhi Laa ilaha illahuwa Al Hayyu Al Qayyum.

We also learn 'Allahuma igfirli wa tub alaya innaka anta tawabur Raheem'. Abdullah bn Umar said, if they sit with the Prophet he used to say it repeatedly. 'O Allah forgive me, make me turn to you in repentance, and when I repent, accept it. You are the one who accept tawbah and the one who grant mercy, forgive me and show me mercy'. This should be our approach to these days (last ten days dhul hijja).

As we make Tawbah, the other side is we should avoid sins. Ikwah, let us think about this and avoid sins.

2) The second thing is you go for Hajj, if you have private jet you can still go for Hajj. The first we mentioned is seeking forgiveness, the next is performing hajj.

3) The next is fasting, we fast the first day up to the nineth. The first ten days has a fasting in it. The only day you won't fast on it is on a saturday because the Prophet prohibited fasting on a Saturday except in Ramadan or to attorn for a vow, or kafara and other compuslory fast.

Please Ikhwah, let us fast in this first 9 days of Dhul-hijjah. Let us pay particular preference to the day of Arafah. If you don't fast day one to eight, don't forget Arafah.

The Prophet was asked about fasting Arafah, he said, 'I anticipate that Allah will make it a means of forgiveness of sins done last year and coming one year'. So, let's us hasten to fast.

4) Also SOLAH.
Allah warned us, 'hāfidhu 'ala solawāt' (Guard strictly the prayers i.e five obligatory the prayers - Surah Baqara 2:238). Pray five daily Solah in jama' (congregation) and appropriate time. Preserve your Solah and observe them properly.

Ikhwah, don't joke with your Solah. If you are still joking with your Solah, don't come to these best ten days with this attitude.

Pay attention to Qiyāmulayl, you can observe your own after Isha, at the middle of the night or third part of the night (the best).

It was reported that (a companion), when the first ten days of Dhul-hijjah comes in, he makes a lot of effort in terms of worship. Infact he would sometimes not be able to sustain what he does. He fast, do sodaqoh, Qiyāmulayl (and others). He would even say 'don't turn off your light in these days'. If you stay up in the nights of Ramadan, why shouldn't you stay up in Dhul hijjah too?.

Also the rawatib, two units before Solatul Fajr, four before Dhur, two after Dhur, two after Isha, you can even make two units after 'asr and after Maghrib. Look for other nawafil like Solatu tasbih.

Solatu tasbih has four rak'ah, in the first rak'ah, you recite Du'ā Al-Istiftah (opening Du'ā after takbir), then Suratul Fatha and another Surah then you say "SubhanalLah walhamdulillah wa laa illaha illallah, Allahu Akbar" 15 times, in your Ruku' after saying the adhkar for Ruku' you say it (subhanallah walhamdulillah...)10 times, when you stand up straight you say it 10 times, when you go for sujud, after you've said the adhkar for Sujud, you say it 10 times, when you sit between two prostrations, you say it 10 times, you say it again when you go for sujud, then you repeat it in the remaining three rak'ah. (You can refer to Shaykh's lecture on Solatu tasbih).

Anyone who observes this, Allah will forgive him all his sins whether major or minor. Pay attention to this also.

5) Also is saying Alllahu Akbar, Laa ilaha illallah, Alhamdulillah. The Prophet said "There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahlil (La ilaha ill-Allah), Takbir (Allahu Akbar) and Tahmid (Alhamdulillah)."

Abu Hurayrah and Abdullah bn Umar will come to markets on the first ten days of Dhul-hijja, they will be saying Takbir. Ikhwah, when you go to your office say it, in public bus say it, in your private car say it. Nothing brought them (the companions) to the market but to say it to the people so that they also become conscious to say it. We should say alot of Tahlil, Tahmid and Takbir.

The people have not done well, they have fall short by abandoning these ten days.

6) From the things we should also pay attention to is Sodaqoh.

Ikhwah give a lot of charity. The Sodaqoh you make in the first ten days of Dhul-hijjah are better than any other days of the year. Let us all pay attention to it.

7) From it is, we prepare to slaughter our camel, cow or ram. Camel is better then cow.

Ikhwah, let us slaughter as much as we can. The Prophet slaughtered 100 camels in Hajjatul wada. Ikhwah going to Hajj, don't just pay for one ram when you can pay for ten, when was the last time you slaughtered ram for Allah. Many of us are stingy, we want from Allah but we don't want to give back.

Those at home, if you are slaughtering ileya ram - your 'Udhiya', or if you say 'Idhiyah' it's correct. Either of these three are allowed; Camel, Cow and Goat.

Ghanam are divided into Al Maa'z, Goats; Gawatu sha'r - animals with hairs, the second is Ram and sheep, Gawatu suuf - animals with wool.

*Don't take anything from your hair or nails once we are in Dhul hijjah if you'll be slaughtering.*

You can slaughter a camel alone 1million, 1.5m, Allah will reward you. You can combine with another person but not more than seven of you, the same apply to cow.

Camels must be at least 5yrs old going to the 6th. If it's cow it must be at least 2yrs old. Don't slaughter a cow of 1yr old.

Also don't slaughter an animal except it is Musinna (in good condition). The Prophet said, don't slaughter except animals that have musin (good condition). I have deliberately gone to check, there is no report on slaughtering a cow of less than two years.

If you can't afford a camel or a cow, in that case slaughter a ram or sheep that is 1yr above but if you are really capable it should be above 2 years. As for the camels it should be 5years at least. Cows 2yrs going to 3rd.

Don't forget when you slaughter, you must not slaughter an animal that is clearly blind or clearly looking sick or have broken legs, let us avoid this.

Also an animal that its ear had cut, or that the horn has broken, although it's from aspect of dislike, if it's minor (it is okay) but when it becomes very obvious it's not proper.

8) Also Solatul Eid

It's after Solah we slaughter. Some people, because of 'odun' party, they slaughter before Solah. The one who slaughter before Solah should slaughter another one in its place. You have to repeat it.

Bi-idhnilLah I hope that before the day of Eid, we will have time to remind ourselves of the etiquettes of Eid.

9) Make Du'ā for yourself, don't be stingy, make Du'ā for your brother,k don't forget that when you make Du'ā for your brother in his absence the Angels will ask the same for you, we have learnt all of this in our classes.

All the etiquettes of Du'ā we've learnt, this is the time to use them. Make wudu, sit-down, face Qiblah, praise Allah, say Solah 'ala nabiyy, use Ismullahi Al-a'adham (theu greatest name of Allah).

May Allah accept our Du'ā and forgive our shortcomings. Make things easy for us. Grant us reconciliation between us and the rest of our brothers, colleagues, wives and children.

Forgive us, Yaa rabil a'lamīn. Yaa dhal jalal wal Ikram.
