There are many possible causes of a house fire.

Some of the most common include:

Electrical faults – Damaged wiring, overloaded sockets, faulty appliances, or poor electrical installations.

Cooking accidents – Leaving food unattended on the stove or using cooking oil carelessly.

Gas leaks – Leaking LPG cylinders, gas pipes, or faulty gas appliances can ignite and explode.

Candles or open flames – Unattended candles, kerosene lamps, or matches.

Smoking materials – Ci******es or matches not properly extinguished.

Heating equipment – Heaters placed too close to curtains, furniture, or other flammable materials.

Children playing with fire – Using matches, lighters, or fireworks.

Faulty generators or fuel storage – Poor generator maintenance or storing petrol near heat sources.

Lightning strikes – Especially during severe thunderstorms.

Intentional fires (arson) – Fires deliberately started by someone.

HOW DO YOU REDUCE THE RISK?

Have your home's electrical wiring inspected regularly.

Never leave cooking unattended.

Check gas cylinders and connections for leaks.
Keep flammable materials away from heat sources.

Install smoke alarms if possible.
Keep a fire extinguisher readily available and know how to use it.

Store petrol, kerosene, and other fuels safely, away from living areas.

Teach children about fire safety and keep matches and lighters out of their reach.

If a house catches fire, get everyone out immediately, call the fire service, and do not re-enter the building until it has been declared safe.
