Taraba Hosts Nwonyo Fishing Festival as Governor Agbu Kefas Pushes for Global Recognition

Governor Agbu Kefas, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, set a new milestone by successfully hosting the 2026 edition of the Nwonyo Traditional Fishing Festival in Ibi Local Government Area of the state.
The festival attracted notable international figures, including the Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell, as well as a representative of the President of Ghana.
Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was represented at the event by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa.
The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, stood in for Taraba’s elder statesman, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, who served as Chairman of the occasion.
In his address, Governor Kefas described the festival as a powerful unifying force and a vital platform for the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage.
He emphasized that his administration has taken deliberate steps to elevate the festival to international status.
He also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Mitchell for honoring the event with his presence.
Other speakers at the occasion commended the Governor for reviving the festival and advocated for its expansion as a driver of economic development.
The winner of the fishing festival received a grand prize of 10 million naira while the second and third place winners were awarded 3 million and 2 million naira, respectively.
The event also featured the presentation of gifts to dignitaries and international guests in attendance.

Work on the Wukari–Chinkai road is moving forward steadily as part of the Taraba State Government’s efforts to strengthen road infrastructure under Governor Agbu Kefas.
Once completed, the project is set to improve access between communities, shorten travel duration, and stimulate economic growth within the area.

Governor Agbu Kefas Flags Off 35km Zing–Yakoko, Monkin–Lama Road Project

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has officially flagged off the construction of the Zing–Yakoko and Monkin–Lama road project, covering a total distance of 35 kilometers.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held on Friday at the project site in Zing, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural development across the state.
He stated that his government remains resolute in its determination to pursue policies and projects that serve the best interests of the people, adding that with sustained commitment and strategic implementation, the government is capable of achieving its developmental objectives.
According to the Governor, the present moment calls for the delivery of tangible and enduring development that will positively impact the lives of citizens.
Dr. Kefas also commended the Mumuye community, describing them as industrious agricultural stakeholders with significant potential to contribute to the state’s economic growth.
He noted that the road project would enhance agricultural productivity by improving access to markets and facilitating broader economic activities within the area.
Reflecting on the strong electoral support received from the people of Zing, the Governor assured residents that their confidence in his leadership would be justified through the delivery of impactful projects.
He further assured that the road construction would be executed and completed in accordance with the approved plan.
The ceremony was well attended by government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

Governor Agbu Kefas reaffirms commitment to security in Takum

His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, attended a get-together organized by TY Danjuma in Takum yesterday.
At the event, the Governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Takum and across other parts of the state.
Governor Kefas expressed delight over the restoration of peace and harmony in Takum, noting that “life and love have returned” to the area following a period of insecurity.
He assured residents that his administration will continue to prioritize the protection of lives and property, emphasizing that security remains a central focus of his government.
The Governor further disclosed that his administration is collaborating closely with neighboring states to strengthen border security and curb criminal activities.
He also commended General Danjuma for his continued support and contributions to development, describing his efforts as impactful and worthy of emulation.
