Hydroquinone is a topical skin bleaching agent used in the cosmetic treatment of hyperpigmentation.

How does it work?

It produces reversible lightening of the skin by interfering with melanin production by melanocytes.Hydroquinone at recommended doses are used for tough skin conditions.

The problem arises when, due to it’s lightening effect, is used for a long period of time.

It may interest you to know that hydroquinone is banned in most countries, including Nigeria.

Why? The skin is the largest organ in the body and easily absorbs anything applied on it.

Coupled with hydroquinone, bleaching creams contain heavy metals like mercury and arsenic at high concentrations.
