NAHCON Concludes 2025 Hajj Return Operations as Last Flight Departs for Kaduna
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has successfully concluded the return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following the 2025 Hajj exercise. The final flight departed Jeddah today at 10:30am approximately carrying 88 pilgrims back to Kaduna State plus one from Katsina. The return leg operation spanned 20 days after commencing on 13th of June.
In his farewell address to the pilgrims, the Chairman of NAHCON, Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman, expressed profound gratitude to Allah for granting Nigerian a smooth and successful Hajj exercise. He attributed this success to the spirit of unity and cooperation demonstrated by State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards officials, airline operators and other service providers, as well as obedience of the pilgrims to laid down guidelines.
The Chairman urged the returning pilgrims to continue praying for Nigeria to overcome its challenges and to remember the nation’s leaders in their prayers. He also reminded them that Hajj serves as an opportunity to build meaningful relationships which foster peace and harmony, therefore Professor Usman encouraged them to sustain the ties of friendships they established during their pilgrimage.
The Chairman flanked by Commissioner Operations, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, Secretary of the Commission, Dr Mustapha Alli, Special Assistant to the President Ameen Amshi and other NAHCON staff prayed for their safe journey back to Nigeria.
He reassured that NAHCON will continue to improvement in its mandate for Nigerian pilgrims in line with global best practices.

Hajj 2025 NAHCON Confirms Shift in Final Pilgrims’ Return Flight
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) wishes to inform the public, particularly 2025 Hajj pilgrims, their families and stakeholders, that the return leg Hajj airlift operations has improved significantly with carriers securing an increase in slot allocations.
Nigeria’s carriers have since 22nd June been allocated up to seven flights per day at the ratio of 2-2-2-1. The general pace of operations had been slower than anticipated due to post Hajj airspace congestion and flight cancellations for various reasons.
However, despite the increase in slots, the return airlift of pilgrims may not be concluded by June 28th as earlier projected. This may not be possible until Tuesday, 2nd July 2025- approximately six days away, barring any further unforeseen disruptions.
Out of the total 41,668 Nigerian pilgrims airlifted to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj, over 27, 316 have already been transported back to Nigeria. This number excludes multitudes that returned to the country through regular flights due to their urgent demands at home.
Of the remaining number of pilgrims, Max Air has 6,019 with aircraft capacity of 1,120 daily having two wide bodied aircraft with 560 seats each.
UMZA Aviation Services is left with 4,850 passengers divided between two aircraft with 484 seats capacity and 312 totaling 796.
FlyNas has 2,480 pilgrims left with a carriage capacity of 819 passengers daily.
Air Peace is left with 1, 635 pilgrims with an aircraft of 315.
NAHCON remains determined to facilitate the earliest possible return for all pilgrims.

Fire Incident at Pilgrims’ Hotel on Shari Mansur Street – No Casualties Reported
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) regrets to inform the public of a fire incident that occurred earlier today, Saturday, 7th June 2025, around 12:00 noon (KSA time), at one of the hotels accommodating Nigerian pilgrims on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah.
The affected hotel, Imaratus Sanan, was hosting about 484 pilgrims from six Nigerian Private Tour Operator Companies. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and all pilgrims are safely in Mina. Immediate emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management helped to contain the fire swiftly and prevent it from spreading all over the building.
Following the incident, the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, alongside Commissioner Policy Personnel Management and Finance, Alhaji Aliu Abdulrazak and Deputy Makkah Coordinator, Director Alidu Shutti promptly visited the location to assess the situation and ensure that the welfare of the affected pilgrims is prioritized.
Expressing concern during the visit, Professor Abdullahi ordered for immediate relocation of the affected pilgrims to a new accommodation. He commiserated with the affected pilgrims, assuring that the Commission will provide every possible support within its capacity to cushion the impact of the incident.
The Chairman thanked Almighty Allah that no life was lost in this unfortunate incident, promising that NAHCON will work with the affected Tour Operators to ensure that pilgrims are relocated and provided with the necessary assistance. The Chairman and his team have already inspected the new building and concluded arrangement for the pilgrims’ resettlement.
The Chairman and Commissioner PPMF appreciated the prompt response of the Saudi emergency services and the cooperation of the hotel staff in managing the situation.
Further updates will be communicated as necessary.

Eid al-Adha Message from NAHCON Chairman
All praise belong to Allah, for the privilege of witnessing another eid-al-adha; the celebration of sacrifice. On behalf of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), I heartily congratulate all Muslims on the occasion. We especially congratulate the fortunate pilgrims who witnessed the Day of Arafat. May Allah accept your prayers and sacrifices and those of other Muslims too.
As we celebrate this day, I enjoin our Muslim faithfuls to remember the essence of the Hajj period and to imbibe the lessons contained in the exercise. Remember the trust in Allah that Sayyidatuna Hajara had that brought the existence of Zamzam. Remember the Sacrifice that Prophet Ibrahim made in abandoning his family in the desert alone in the care of Allah and how Allah rewarded that obedience with the boisterous town of Makkah. See how the reward of trust in Allah led to surplus blessings in foods and security in a desert land as a rewarding response to Prophet Ibrahim’s supplication. Trust in Allah, obedience to leadership and discipline will make communities and nations prosper.
In celebrating the success of Hajj so far, let me start by appreciating the cooperation and orderly conduct of Nigerian pilgrims throughout this Hajj exercise. Their patience and discipline have been remarkable. This made NAHCON’s job easier.
We in NAHCON also extend our appreciation to the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards. Their support and excellent organization of pilgrims have contributed greatly to the success of the operations.
To our dedicated NAHCON staff, many of whom were serving pilgrims even while in the state of ihram, your sacrifice is noted, and your reward is with Allah.
To our Board Members and all our Ad-hoc staff, we are grateful for your tireless commitment and patience in serving the guests of Allah.
We cannot fail to acknowledge the strong support of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima. Their backing has been instrumental in the smooth running of this year’s Hajj operations.
We also commend the excellent services witnessed in the Mashair: Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. We assure the public that NAHCON is committed to doing even better, with the right cooperation and continued support from all stakeholders.
As we mark Eid, we bring good news: the return journey for Nigerian pilgrims will begin on the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah. The first flights will include pilgrims from Imo State with Air Peace, Bauchi State with Max Air, and Kebbi and Sokoto States with Flynas. We urge the first batch pilgrims to be ready for their return trip and pray for a smooth return leg operation for all our pilgrims.
Eid Mubarak once again. May Allah accept our Hajj, our sacrifices, and our prayers.
Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman
