ABOUT US:

The Nigerian Legion, a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament in 1964, was amended by the Nigerian Legion Interim Management Decree 25 of 1977 and further amended by Nigerian Legion Decree No. 37 of 1988. The Federal Republic of Nigeria Official Gazette No. 64 Vol. 75 dated 30th September 1988 published the amendment. As an off-shoot of the armed forces, comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Nigerian Legion was established to cater to the welfare of ex-service men who fought in wars that Nigeria has participated in and to promote the spirit of comradeship among living ex-service and serving personnel in the military.

Decree No. 37 of 1988 empowers the Nigerian Legion to establish an affair of the corps of commissionaire or any other organization to serve as an auxiliary arm. Therefore, the Nigerian Legion is a Federal Government security agency under the Veterans Affairs Division (VAD) of the Headquarters Ministry of Defense Abuja.
