Female infertility refers to infertility in women. Infertility is defined as not being able to become pregnant after having regular in*******se (s*x) without birth control after one year (or after six months if a woman is 35 years or older).

The most common cause of female infertility is failure to ovulate. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hypothalamic dysfunction, premature ovarian failure and too much prolactin can cause ovulation disorders.

Other causes are:

▪Blocked, damaged or absent fallopian tubes ( ) which can be caused by pelvic inflammatory disease ( ), previous surgery in the abdomen or pelvis, including surgery for ectopic pregnancy and pelvic tuberculosis

▪Rarely, a chromosomal abnormality, such as Turner's syndrome, is the cause of a woman's infertility
