UNFAIR DISMISSAL: Trade Kings Management Under Fire for Discrimination and Safety Failures
The "Zambian Cry" platform is bringing to light a grave injustice involving an employee at the Trade Kings factory—a person with a disability who is being used as a scapegoat for management’s own failures.
The Injustice Against a Person with Disability
Recent reports and viral footage have revealed that an employee, mockingly referred to by colleagues as "Chibulu" (deaf), is being forced to step down. This worker is being penalized for not following verbal cues he could not hear—a situation caused entirely by management’s failure to provide Reasonable Accommodation for his disability.
Discriminating against a worker based on their disability is a direct violation of the Persons with Disabilities Act of Zambia.
Management’s Failure, Not the Worker’s Fault
The video circulating online does not just expose a worker; it exposes a systemic failure in hygiene and safety:
Lack of PPE: Workers were found touching biscuits with bare hands because management failed to provide gloves.
Toxic Environment: Allowing derogatory names like "Chibulu" shows a workplace culture of bullying tolerated by top officials.
Deflecting Blame: CEO Iqbal Patel, Director Ernest Mande, and the board are reportedly choosing to fire these vulnerable workers rather than taking responsibility for the lack of sanitary equipment and oversight.
Our Stance
We find it unacceptable that top bosses show "fearless" disregard for the Zambian people's health while punishing a man for a disability he did not choose. Firing these boys does not fix the "hidden sickness" caused by poor factory standards; it only hides the evidence.
We Demand:
Reinstatement or Fair Compensation: An immediate halt to the unfair dismissal of the worker with a disability.
Provision of PPE: Trade Kings must prove they have issued gloves and hygiene gear to all staff.
Human Rights Investigation: We call on the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) and the Ministry of Labour to investigate this factory's treatment of workers.
