By evening, it feels like the whole family already knows what happened.

In many African homes, family involvement in relationships is very common. Parents want to guide. Relatives want to protect. Elders feel responsible for helping couples make the right decisions.

But sometimes… it starts to feel like the relationship has too many voices.

Many couples experience things like:

• Private issues becoming family discussions. One small disagreement suddenly turns into advice from three different relatives.
• Family opinions influencing major decisions. Where to live, how to spend money, or even how a partner should behave.
• Pressure to always please the family. You want peace with your partner, but you also don’t want to disrespect their relatives.
• Feeling like your relationship is being watched. As if every choice must be approved by someone else.

Here’s an honest question:
At what point does family support become family interference? 🤔

Family is important. In African culture, their guidance can be a blessing. But every couple also needs space to grow, communicate, and solve problems together.
