The bird above is a peregrine falcon, one of the fastest animals on Earth. When it dives, it can exceed 320 km/h, slicing through the air with almost no turbulence. Its body shape, feather structure, and wing angles have been refined by natural selection over tens of millions of years.

The aircraft below, the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, was designed with a surprisingly similar philosophy. Engineers shaped it with smooth curves, blended wings, and minimal sharp edges to reduce drag and avoid detection. Many of those aerodynamic ideas already exist in nature.

This is called biomimicry. Humans often look to nature for solutions because evolution has already tested countless designs. Every wing, fin, and feather we see today is the result of billions of failed attempts across deep time.

In a way, nature is the ultimate engineer. Human technology often advances fastest when we stop trying to reinvent the wheel and start studying what evolution has already perfected.
