Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that causes irreparable damage to the optic nerve leading to blindness. It is usually caused by high pressure inside your eyes.
Symptoms of glaucoma are: eye pain, severe headaches, seing halos around light, tunnel vision, redness and patchy blind spots round central vision.
The 4 types of Glaucoma are : Primary Open Angle Glaucoma, Angle Closure Glaucoma, Normal Tension Glaucoma and Secondary Glaucoma and there are factors that can increase the risks of glaucoma... These include: Your age-- glaucoma becomes more common as you get older, Your family history-- you're more likely to develop glaucoma if you have a parent or sibling with the condition, e.t.c. Other medical conditions like short sightedness, Hypertension and Diabetes amongst others.
Treatment for glaucoma depends on the type of glaucoma you have, the options are: 1. eye drops to reduce the pressure in your eyes
2. Laser treatment (that is to open up the drainage tubes or reduce the production of fluid in your eyes .
Surgery (to improve the drainage of fluid.
If you have glaucoma, early diagnosis and treatment can help stop your vision from getting worse. Without Treatment, Glaucoma can eventually Lead to Blindness.
