AFRAID TO START CREATING? Do These 5 Things First

Starting can feel scary.

“What if I’m not talented?”
“What if I fail?”
“What if mine isn’t good enough?”

Before you quit in your head, do these 5 things first:

1️⃣ Start small — not big.
Don’t aim for perfection. Aim for practice.
Simple projects build real confidence.

2️⃣ Learn the basics properly.
Confidence doesn’t come from hype.
It comes from understanding foundations.

3️⃣ Give yourself permission to be a beginner.
Every skilled creative you admire once made messy first attempts.

4️⃣ Stop comparing your Day 1 to someone’s Year 5.
Comparison kills courage faster than failure ever will.

5️⃣ Join beginner-safe learning spaces.
This is important.
You grow faster when you’re learning in a space that:

👉Explains things step-by-step

👉Doesn’t shame mistakes

👉Makes room for questions

👉Is built for beginners, not experts

And that’s exactly why I created my Free Beginner Creative Class.

Inside, I teach simple, practical Ankara projects like:
• Reversible hair bonnet
• Turban cap / headwrap
• Ankara throw pillow
• Easy starter crafts

No pressure.
No overwhelming jargon.
Just structured, beginner-friendly guidance to help you start confidently.

Because fear reduces when clarity increases.

If creating has been on your mind for a while,
This might be your sign to stop overthinking and start learning.

How to Know Which Creative Skill Is Right for You as a Beginner

One mistake many beginners make is jumping into a creative skill because it’s trending… not because it fits them.

Before you choose what to learn, ask yourself these simple questions 👇🏽

1. What do you naturally enjoy doing with your hands?
Do you enjoy folding fabrics, styling, sewing, or decorating?
Your interest is often the first clue to your creative direction.

2. How much time can you realistically commit?
Some skills require long practice hours.
Others—like basic crafts and headwraps—can be learned and practiced in short sessions.
Start with what fits your current lifestyle.

3. What resources do you already have?
You don’t need everything to begin, but starting with what’s around you helps.
If you already have Ankara fabrics or simple tools, that’s a sign of where to start.

4. Do you prefer quick wins or long-term mastery?
If you’re the type that needs small results to stay motivated, begin with simple, practical projects that give you confidence fast.

5. What problem do you want your skill to solve?
Is it self-expression?
A side income?
Creating gifts?
Understanding why you want the skill helps you choose wisely.

Start simple. Grow intentionally.
You don’t need to have everything figured out today.
Your first skill is just a doorway—not a lifetime decision.

And if Ankara crafts are on your mind, start with the basics in my FREE class where I teach beginner-friendly projects step by step.

No overwhelm. No guesswork.
Just a simple place to begin.

“Madam, what is this you’re creating?”
“What’s the name of this material?”
“How do they even do this?”

These were the questions people asked me when I started my creative journey.

To the on-lookers, everything looked like magic.
Neat finishes. Confident hands. Finished pieces that sparked curiosity.

But the truth is — it wasn’t magic.
It was starting.

What most people don’t realize is that every skilled creative they admire today once stood exactly where the bystanders are standing now: watching, wondering, postponing.

It’s easy to clap for people building.
It’s easy to ask questions from the sidelines.
But there’s a quiet difference between those who admire creativity and those who answer the nudge to try.

Starting as a creative changes something in you.
You stop seeing things as “impossible” and start seeing steps.
You stop asking “How do they do it?” and begin asking “What can I learn first?”

And that first step is rarely big.
It’s often simple, basic, and a little messy.
But it’s powerful — because it moves you from spectator to participant.

If you’ve been watching others build and thinking, “I wish I could do something like this” —maybe that thought isn’t random.
Maybe it’s an invitation.

That’s why I’m big on beginners having a gentle place to start — somewhere you can touch the basics, follow along, and see for yourself that it’s not magic after all.

If you’re ready to stop watching and start trying, comment “START”or click the link in my bio and I’ll point you in the right direction.

P.S: I made these Ankara bags and slippers for my birthday as far back as 2015
