My reaction whenever someone says money canât buy happiness
06/07/2026
I was watching a video with my son one day, and the speaker said, âMoney doesnât buy happiness.â My son immediately chuckled. I looked at him and asked, âWhy are you laughing? Do you think money buys happiness?â Without hesitation, he said, âYes.â
That caught my attention, so I asked him why. It made me realize that, to a child, money means toys, fun experiences, vacations, and all the things they enjoy. So, from his perspective, it made perfect sense.
It also reminded me that the saying isnât completely wrong or completely right. Money can buy comfort, security, and opportunities that contribute to happiness, but it canât buy genuine love, meaningful relationships, good character, or inner peace. Maybe the better way to say it is: money can make life easier, but it canât guarantee happiness.
