"For the record, a soldier’s starting salary is ₦104,000 when you first join. After five years, you get a new rank and your salary increases to ₦112,000. At 10 years, you are promoted again (to corporal), and the salary becomes ₦115,000. After 15 years, it rises to ₦125,000, and at 20 years, the salary reaches ₦150,000.

This new structure only started this year. Before now, a soldier’s salary was just ₦50,000.

Aside from salary, there are a few allowances. For example, the “grumbling allowance” is ₦20,000. When added to your salary, that’s what you take home monthly.

But remember: inside this ₦150,000, your mother will call, your wife, children, and friends will need help. You will buy data, transport, food, and still try to save. I’m only telling you so it won’t be said that nobody enlightened you before joining…”
