MSSN Niger State Commemorates 2025 World Hijab Day, Calls for End to Harassment of Muslim Women

Paiko, Niger State – February 10, 2025

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Niger State Area Unit has extended warm felicitations to Muslim sisters across the world on the occasion of the 1446AH/2025 World Hijab Day.

To mark the event, the Ameerah of MSSN Niger State, Sis. Farida Danjuma Umar, officially flagged off Hijab Week Day, hosted by MSSN Paiko Area Council at Martin Sanda Government Girls' Day Science College, Paiko. The event focused on the theme: “Hijab is Unsilenceable: Amplifying the Voices of Muslim Womenfolk”, with discussions led by Sis. Fatima Dauda and Sis. Habiba Muhammad (Former Ameerah, MSSN Paiko Area Council).

Speaking at the event, Sis. Farida Danjuma Umar urged Nigerian Muslim women, regardless of ethnicity, to unite in solidarity, particularly in support of female secondary school students who face harassment and discrimination for wearing the Hijab. She emphasized that the theme of this year’s World Hijab Day is about breaking stereotypes and shattering boundaries, encouraging Muslim women to take pride in their Hijab as a symbol of modesty and devotion to Allah.

In her address, Sis. Maimuna Raji Egigogo, a veteran female journalist, asserted that Hijab does not hinder progress but instead empowers women to achieve greatness in their respective fields. She debunked misconceptions that the Hijab is a barrier to academic and professional excellence, citing examples of successful Muslim women excelling in various professions, including journalism.

Adding his voice, the Matawale of Paiko, a former Council Secretary and Chairman of the Peace and Security Committee, lamented the growing discrimination against Muslim students and women wearing Hijab. He condemned the deliberate acts of hatred, emphasizing that such negative attitudes have inflicted emotional and psychological distress on Muslim women, making them feel alienated in their own country.

Despite these challenges, he urged Muslim sisters to remain steadfast in observing the Hijab, assuring them that no amount of discrimination should deter them from upholding their religious and cultural identity.

The MSSN Niger State Area Unit reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights of Muslim women and called for an end to all forms of harassment against those who choose to wear the Hijab.

A tragic accident has just occurred at Saint John Junction in Bida town today at approximately 3:20 pm. A young man and woman were riding a motorcycle when the man attempted to avoid a truck and swerved. Unfortunately, the woman fell off the bike and was immediately crushed by the moving truck. And the man got injured badly. Sadly the driver disappeared.

May the almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant the husband quick recovery.
