Parents, Please Don’t D!e With Secrets.

I saw this picture of three siblings here on Facebook, one brother and two sisters from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

Their father had joined a group called “Ekpe” (a traditional society in that area).

But he never told his children.

He attended meetings quietly.
Belonged quietly.
Took obligations quietly.
Pay dues quietly.

Then he died.

The children, who had different beliefs, buried him the way they knew best.

They didn’t follow the traditional rites of the group, because they didn’t even know.

Later, tragedy struck. The male died before the father was buried.

Another on Tuesday.
The last on Thursday.

Now people are talking. Some are blaming tradition. Some are blaming disobedience. Some are blaming ignorance.

But the real question is:
Why didn’t the father speak?

Whether you belong to a traditional society, cultural group, secret cĂŒlt, cƓnfrĂ„ternity, or anything at all that has burial conditions, please TELL YOUR CHILDREN.

Don’t leave them with confusion.
Don’t leave them with fear.
Don’t leave them f!ghting spiritual or cultural bĂ„ttles they don’t understand.

Death is painful enough. Secrets make it worse.

Communication is not betrayal. It is responsibility.

Some secrets should never follow you to the grave.
