WHY DO MANY FOLLOW GOD MAINLY FOR MIRACLES ?
________
Many follow God mainly for miracles because of misplaced motives and misunderstanding of who He is.
1. Human nature tends to seek benefits, not the Giver:
In *John 6:26*, Jesus told the crowd:
“You seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.”
They were chasing Him for bread, not truth.
It’s the same today — many see God as a solution to earthly problems rather than the Lord to be loved and obeyed.
2. Preaching that focuses on miracles more than the Gospel:
Many pulpits highlight “breakthrough,” “healing,” and “success” more than repentance, holiness, and eternal life.
This creates believers who follow God like customers in a shop — always asking, “What can I get?” instead of “How can I serve?”
3. Impatience for quick fixes:
People want instant change in finances, health, or relationships — so they chase miracles instead of enduring faith.
This makes them vulnerable to false prophets who promise wonders but lead away from God (*Matthew 24:24*).
4. Forgetting the greatest miracle:
The greatest miracle is salvation — a dead sinner being made alive in Christ (*Ephesians 2:1–5*).
But when believers undervalue eternal life, they run after signs and wonders that fade.
5. Lack of true discipleship:
Without teaching on carrying the cross (*Luke 9:23*) and enduring trials (*James 1:2–4*), people assume following God means constant comfort.
When trouble comes and the miracle doesn’t happen, many fall away (*Mark 4:16–17*).
Biblical balance:
God does work miracles — and they are good gifts that glorify Him. But Jesus made it clear:
> “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign…” (*Matthew 16:4)*
True followers seek Him, not just His benefits *(Psalm 73:25*).a
