Facing the New Year with the Courage of Joshua's Charge

The dawn of a new year often brings with it a mix of emotions: excitement for fresh starts, anticipation for new opportunities, and perhaps a tinge of apprehension for the unknown.

In the midst of these feelings, we can draw inspiration from the courageous charge given to Joshua, a leader tasked with leading the Israelites into the Promised Land.

Joshua 1:9 reads: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This powerful verse encapsulates the essence of facing the new year with courage.

Let's break it down:
1. "Have I not commanded you?" This implies a divine commission, a purpose-driven mission. As we embark on a new year, we must recognize that God has a plan for our lives. Our role is to align ourselves with His will and walk in obedience to His commands.

2. "Be strong and courageous." Strength and courage are not merely physical attributes, but also spiritual ones. They stem from a deep-rooted faith in God's promises and an unwavering trust in His guidance.

3. "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Fear and discouragement are natural human emotions, but they can paralyze us and hinder our progress. By clinging to God's word and seeking His presence, we can overcome these obstacles and embrace the challenges that lie ahead.

4. "For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." This is the ultimate source of our strength and courage. Knowing that God is always by our side, walking with us through every step of our journey, gives us the confidence to face any obstacle.

Just as Joshua led the Israelites into the unknown, we too can step into the new year with unwavering faith and courage. We may not know what lies ahead, but we can trust that God is with us, guiding our steps and leading us towards His divine purpose.

Here are some practical ways to apply Joshua's charge to our life in the new year;
a. Spend time in prayer and meditation. Seek God's guidance and direction for the year ahead.
b. Study God's word. Allow His promises to strengthen your faith and renew your hope.
c. Surround yourself with supportive people. Connect with others who will encourage you and pray for you.
* Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. View setbacks as stepping stones towards greater things.
d. Trust in God's timing and plan. Remember that He is in control, even when things seem uncertain.

As you step into the new year, remember the words of Joshua: "Be strong and courageous." With God by your side, you can face any challenge and achieve any goal.

A WORTHY LEGACY

A legacy worth following is one that inspires and uplifts others. It is a legacy that leaves a positive impact on the world, a legacy that encourages others to strive for greatness.

Think of the legacy of Nelson Mandela, a man who fought for equality and justice, who inspired millions to believe in the power of peace and reconciliation. His legacy is one of courage, resilience, and unwavering hope.

Or consider the legacy of Marie Curie, a pioneering scientist who broke barriers and made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of radioactivity. Her legacy is one of intellectual curiosity, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

These are just a few examples of the many legacies worth following. They are legacies that inspire us to be better people, to make a difference in the world, and to leave our own mark on history.

So, what kind of legacy do you want to leave? What kind of impact do you want to make on the world? Remember, your legacy is not just about what you achieve, but also about how you inspire others.

Here are some tips on how to build a legacy worth following:
* Live with purpose. What are your passions? What are your values? What do you want to achieve in life? When you live with purpose, you are more likely to make a difference.

* Be a positive influence. Be kind, compassionate, and helpful to others. Be a role model for others to follow.

* Never give up. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable. But it is how you respond to them that will define your legacy.

* Leave your mark. What is your unique contribution to the world? What are your talents and skills? Use them to make a difference.
