This circular from Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc's Numan operations has opened a shocking level of entitlement and betrayal among some staff members. Why will you be chewing company sugarcane while littering the grounds? Sugarcane that is a company raw material, what is wrong with you?

Sometimes it feels like HR departments in these big companies also have to babysit adults. Don't you know behaviours like this undermine the company and this is the leak that causes many companies to close shop?

These workers enjoy steady paychecks and benefits from one of the country's largest employers and show zero respect for hygiene standards in a food production facility or the value of the very asset that keeps the refinery alive. What sort of kaikai behaviour is this?

This selfish and shortsighted behaviour reeks of ingratitude and erodes the discipline needed to sustain operations. Dangote Sugar reported revenue of ₦665.6 billion in 2025 while advancing its backward integration project to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of sugar annually from locally grown sugarcane, with Numan operations at the heart of it all. The Numan plantation spans thousands of hectares and supports a factory with crushing capacity ramping up to 9,800 tonnes of cane per day as part of a $700 million expansion drive that will process hundreds of thousands of metric tonnes yearly. Think about the jobs this company has created for thousands in this country.

Each stalk chewed represents lost raw material that could be crushed into refined sugar and when multiplied across hundreds of staff, these acts of wastage could easily cost the company hundreds of millions of Naira annually in direct losses to production, losses that compound in an already tough environment of high costs and economic pressures.

This is the kind of reckless behaviour that will destroy the company if left unchecked. If workers continue treating a company like their personal buffet instead of the lifeline it is for thousands of families, the entire operation will fold under the weight of eroded profits and regulatory risks.

The country is already tough, please don't mess up the little opportunity you have.

It is not life that we are living in

Shock in Eleme as Popular Wheelchair Influencer Dorathy Osaronu is Accused of Diverting ₦10 Million

Tension is rising in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State as popular wheelchair-bound social media influencer, Dorathy Osaronu, faces serious allegations of misappropriating funds reportedly meant for her injured relative’s medical care.

At the center of the controversy is Olaka Osaronu, said to have been struck by a stray bullet during a political event. Since the incident in September 2024, sources allege that his condition has deteriorated amid claims of neglect and lack of access to proper medical treatment.

Multiple local sources now claim that a former Eleme LGA Chairman, Brain Gokpa, had allegedly provided ₦10 million to Dorathy Osaronu to support urgent surgeries for Olaka. However, questions are mounting over the whereabouts of the funds, as insiders insist the promised treatment has yet to materialize months after the incident.

Even more troubling are allegations surrounding the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Some accounts suggest that Olaka had approached Dorathy for assistance regarding personal matters, including clearance issues, before the incident occurred. While these claims remain unverified, they have intensified public scrutiny and fueled emotional reactions within the community.

Critics argue that the situation raises moral and ethical concerns, particularly given the familial relationship between both parties. “You don’t play politics with your brother’s life,” one community member said, reflecting the growing outrage among residents.

Efforts to reach Dorathy Osaronu for comment have so far been unsuccessful, and no official statement has been issued in response to the allegations. Similarly, there has been no independent confirmation from authorities regarding the alleged ₦10 million donation.

As the story continues to unfold, residents of Eleme are calling for transparency and accountability. Many are urging relevant authorities to investigate the claims thoroughly to establish the truth and ensure justice for the injured victim.
