EID AL-FITR: SHARE, REJOICE AND WORSHIP
After days and nights of devotion, worship, day fasting, night vigil prayers and supplications, Eid Al-Fitr comes, an occasion overflowing with joy and happiness.
IT IS SUNNAH ON THE DAY OF EID TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Take a bath before going to the prayer.
2. Clip one's fingernails.
3. Wear the best of one's clothes.
4. Use perfume (men only).
5. Have a light snack such as dates or the like before going to the prayer.
6. Leave early to the prayer place.
7. Walk to the prayer place.
8. Take different routes to and from the place of prayer.
9. Say takbirs of Eid as follows:
Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, laa ilaaha illallaah, wa Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillaahil hamd
This is highly recommended after the sunset of the last day of Ramadan and remains until the Imam says the opening takbir of the Eid prayer.
This includes saying takbir in one's home, the market places, mosques, and the streets.
10. Visit all your relatives and close friends, and call those who are living far away.
11. Congratulate one another by saying:
“Taqabbal Allahu minnaa wa minkum (may Allah accept from us and from you (our good deeds)!)”
As we wear new clothes and go to the prayer place…
As we go to meet our dear ones…
As we exchange congratulations and good wishes…
As we have delicious sweets …
As we give Eid gifts …
As we grin from ear to ear …
As we feel overjoyed on this day…
We should remember that:
Allah Almighty says: And when your Lord proclaimed: "If you give thanks, I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless, verily! My Punishment is indeed severe." (Qur’an 14:7)

KEEP THE SPIRIT OF RAMADAN
Ramadan is now over. Our eyes shed tears and our hearts
ache for the departure of the month of the Qur’an, the
month of mercy, the month of solidarity, the month of
forgiveness, the month of freedom from the Fire. However,
we should continue doing good deeds after Ramadan since
the Lord of Ramadan is the Lord of the entire year.
The following are some of the beneficial means that help us
continue doing good after Ramadan:
1. Continue to observe optional fasting after Ramadan: We
are encouraged in the Sunnah to observe optional fasting
after the month of Ramadan. The days in which optional
fasting are recommended are:
a) Fasting six days during the month of Shawwal
b) Fasting the day of `Arafah, Dhul-Hijjah
9, provided that the person is not performing Hajj
c) Fasting Muharram 10, and if possible the 9th and 11th
days of the same month
d) Fasting as many days as possible during the month of
Sha`ban
e) Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays
f) Fasting the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every lunar month
2. Continue offering the Tahajjud Prayer: During Ramadan
we were accustomed to performing the Tahajjud Prayer, so
after Ramadan, we should continue to offer it, even two
rak`ahs.
3. Continue reading, listening and reflecting on the Qur’an:
Through the month of Ramadan, we used to read, listen to
and reflect on the Qur’an; therefore, we should not forsake it
after Ramadan.
