Common name: African Stink Ant (formerly classified as Pachycondyla tarsata).

🔬 One of the largest ants in Africa, equipped with powerful mandibles for prey capture and defense.
👑 No queen caste — reproduction is performed by fertile workers (gamergates), a rare trait among ants.

MEET THE ANTLION 🐜🕳️
Antlions (Myrmeleontidae) are best known for their larval stage, where they construct cone-shaped pits in loose sand at the angle of repose. These traps cause unsuspecting insects to slide toward the center, where the hidden larva detects vibrations and captures prey with powerful, sickle-shaped mandibles. 🏜️⚠️🦷
The larva injects digestive enzymes to liquefy its prey before feeding—an efficient adaptation for life underground. In sharp contrast, antlion larvae transform into adult lacewings, also known as doodlebugs, which are delicate, dragonfly-like insects that feed little or not at all and exist mainly to reproduce. 🧪🦋
