IKOT EKPENE COUNCIL CHAIRMAN FLAGS OFF SECOND PHASE OF RURAL ROADS GRADING
The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, has flagged off the second phase of rural roads grading, an ongoing exercise aimed at improving rural and infrastructural development.
The grading is enhancing access to several communities, easing the movement of residents, farm produce, and goods, while boosting local economic activities and addressing transportation challenges.
Roads currently being graded in this phase include Timber Market Close (off Abak Road), Abom Street (off Abak Road), Ndon Ide Road, Bishop EKPO Crescent (off Imek Road), INEC Road (off Abak Road), and Edede Street, all within Ikot Ekpene LGA.
The project underscores the Chairman’s commitment to grassroots development and continuous improvement of infrastructure across the local government area.

IKOT EKPENE CHAIRMAN HON. NKOM, HOST ACP BONIFACE ON SECURITY
The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom received the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department (SID), Akwa Ibom State, ACP Essien Peter Boniface, esc, on a familiarization tour aimed at strengthening security cooperation in the area.
The visit which held today, Thursday, 5th February, 2026 in the Council Secretariat also had in attendance Village Youth Presidents from the local government area.
Hon. Nkom in his remarks, appreciated the team from Nigeria Police Force for the visit, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to align with policies and programmes that would promote peace, security, and development.
The Chairman who lauded the cordial working relationship his administration has enjoyed with security operatives in the area, also assured them of continuous partnership that would enhance security and welfare of personnel and people in the local government while commending the Village Youth Presidents for keeping watch of their communities during the festive season and in other times.
Hon. Nkom reiterated that, with a proactive intelligence strategy, crime would be reduced to the lowest rate, and pledged government's synergy with the intelligence agencies to curb impending criminality, as well as providing necessary aid to support their services.
Reiterating his commitment to engaging youths from the area with skills acquisition, particularly at Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC), and in other skills acquisition centres, entreated the youths to support and cooperate with the State Intelligence Department with a promise to hold quarterly meetings for assessment.
Speaking earlier, the Assistant Commissioner of Police,State Intelligence Department (SID), Akwa Ibom State, ACP Essien Peter Boniface, esc, had said, the visit was to engage and collaborate with the council and youths in the local government area, which according to him, was necessitated to achieve sustainable peace and security in the areas of responsibilities and interest, through information gathering.
He said, the Intelligence Department has ventured into proactive intelligence strategy focusing on anticipating, identifying, neutralizing and capitalizing on opportunities before possible escalation which is against, reacting to insecurity and the impacts.
He urged the youth presidents to be vigilant and provide vital information for the maintenance of peace.
While commending the Chairman for fostering a peaceful environment that enables the security agency to effectively carry out their duties, also assured that, the State Intelligence Operative is professionally ready to not only fight crimes but has been equipped with security strategies that would guarantee and tame criminality, drugs as well as working closely with the community youths to sustain peace, law and order in the area, adding that, security is indispensable for the growth and development of every society.

Hon. Nkom Congratulates Ikot Ekpene DASAC Graduates
The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom has applauded indigenes of the local government area who completed their training from the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC), Ikot Ada Idem, while advising them to leverage on the acquired skills in building thriving enterprises as well as outsourcing for employment at the State employment portals and other outlets.
Speaking today, 27th January, 2026 in his office while receiving the graduates who returned in gratitude to thank him for the sponsorship and other supports they received from the council chairman during their stay at the training programme, the Chairman urged them to exhibit the skills they learned at the Centre for development.
While commending artisans for their seal for excellence, especially in completing the programme with good grades, the Chairman specially applauded the three best graduating students for making Ikot Ekpene proud and promised to provide them with further necessary support.
Earlier, the spokesperson for the team, Mr. Ime Uwah, expressed appreciation to the Local Government Council Chairman for sponsoring the thirteen graduates through the DASAC programmes, saying, the visit was basically to thank the chairman for the magnanimity he showed them, leading to their hitch-free completion of the training programme, and prayed for divine blessing on him, and used the opportunity to solicit for support to aid start-up.
The Ikot Ekpene three best graduating trainees, Precious Akaninyene Anthony of Department of Microsoft Fundamentals, Anthony Akpakpan -Department of Civil and Building Technology, and Aniekpeno Godwin of the Department of Agriculture (Piggery).
It is on record that the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom had sponsored thirteen youths to acquire skills at DASAC.
