Local Refineries Get More Crude Supply
Nigeria’s latest oil and gas developments could reduce fuel imports, strengthen the naira, revive industries, create jobs, and position the country as a major refining and energy hub in Africa. Increased local refining and gas development may boost industrialization, power supply, and export earnings. However, the real impact will depend on consistent policies, security, transparency, and proper management of the sector.
As a young Nigerians, it is important to position one selves in engineering, gas development, refining, petrochemicals, power, logistics, technology, and skilled vocational services such as welding, instrumentation, marine operations, and industrial maintenance.
Digital skills like data analysis, automation, cybersecurity, AI, GIS, and software development are becoming increasingly valuable as the industry modernizes.
Certifications such as HSE, NEBOSH, OSHA, OPITO, and AutoCAD can improve employability and competitiveness. The sector also presents strong entrepreneurial opportunities in fabrication, safety services, transportation, marine support, industrial supplies, and technical consulting. Building visibility through networking, industry learning, and platforms like LinkedIn and NNPC Ltd. is equally important.
The key mindset for all Nigerian youth's aspiring to work in the Oil and gas industry is to move beyond simply seeking jobs and instead develop practical skills, technical competence, and problem-solving abilities that fit into Nigeria’s growing refining, gas, petrochemical, and industrial economy.
