The windows on historic buildings in Germany often look crap for many reasons. No shutters. Often dentist white window frames. Big glass elements. Float glas.... but historic glas is rather low quality glass. small, with bad light transmission. Its said, no one wants to live like that anymore, so we change the appearance quite a lot without much resistance. You can barely find a leaded glass window that's not white or something similar. Those old windows have been removed long ago. Often before the invention of photography. And when there is no evidence for something that must have been there, it's called "Disneyland". But we have no issue using floatglass and stuff whats available since the 50s. so many of our buildings are old on paper but look like a 100 year old after 3 facelifts.
