Improving wellbeing through poi, one orbit at a time.

Congratulations to Sebastian von Hagen for becoming a Certified SpinPoi Instructor! Sebastian has been a circus arts instructor at a primary school for many years, and is convinced that circus arts make a significant contribution to positive development in terms of self-esteem, dexterity, coordination, balance, patience, cooperation, and creativity. Sebastian says “Poi playing holds a special place for me because it is particularly fun, can be learned quickly, and is almost a mixture of dance and meditation. Thank you so much for the valuable course, which has enriched my knowledge and makes me very happy. It feels good to still be learning new things at almost 60 and to push myself out of my comfort zone.”

Great to connect with Brendan Larmer - Puketāpapa Local Board at today's Out and About Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau poi session. We had a chance to not only share poi moves but to share a bit about our journeys in life, which it turns out, both circle around making a positive impact in our communities, holding space to listen, and not taking ourselves too seriously. Just one of the many things I love about poi! The way it brings people together.

We just made history. Today Dr. Chris Neuenfeldt and I facilitated the first PATH (Poi Assisted Therapy) sessions, combining EMDR and poi movement for trauma processing. As far as we know, this is the first time that poi has been formally used as bilateral stimulation within EMDR therapy. We’re just getting started, but I already know this is something special 🥹 I’m honored to bring poi into this space and to support trauma survivors in their healing journey.
