Meet the man behind the show: ROY IRO 📣
Although being Roy’s ✨Theatre Directorial Debut✨, he’s also found previous success when he wrote, produced and performed in the award winning theatre show FLAMES: a hip-hop musical. Roy is bringing to MIC DROP comedy, rhythm and style like you’ve never seen.

The crew is gearing up for opening ⏳

The cast and crew invite you to come and watch MIC DROP. Opening TONIGHT, Tue-Sat June 23rd-27th, at Basement Theatre 8PM.
This is the second iteration of Mic Drop, which is adapted from the 2021 mockumentary short film “Drop The Mic” by Marcus Savelio, Isabella Taouma, Kyan Alo & Tamasa Lavea.
Mic Drop made its debut as a script reading at Toi Whakaari’s FWD24. It then made its first staged debut at the 2025 NZ Fringe Festival with a cast consisting of Waikamania Seve, Joshua Leota, Roy Clark, Tamahou TeHei & Joel Washington.
Following Fringe, Mic Drop was awarded the inaugural Playmarket Theatremakers Award, allowing the work to undergo development with script advisor Jason Te Kare, before continuing further development under Roy Iro.
With all this support, Mic Drop was workshopped and expanded into the show you will see today, making its Tāmaki Makaurau debut
