Architecture Inverse - Arquitectura Invertida

Architecture Inverse visited Mexico City. There, we had the opportunity to visit Iaztapalapa and Nezahualcoyotl , two of the largest Homegrown Neighborhoods in Latin America. Many of the houses in some sectors were designed by architects (social housing) but the inhabitants modified the houses to adapt them to their needs. On the public spaces we could find religious images as part of the Catholic culture, and in many streets these images take a strong role. Visiting the houses we could see that their configuration is much wider than in countries like Colombia or Costa Rica and this responds to the evolution of the family nucleus and its growth dynamics. Architecture Inverse had the opportunity to visit La Carpio one of the Largest Homegrown Neightbourhoods of Costa Rica (approx 35,000 inh). Katia a social leader of the neighborhood guided us through the settlement and explained some of its dynamics. This settlement is interesting to be a place that for several years received migrants from Nicaragua, generating socio-spatial patterns rooted in their customs. We also had the opportunity to visit SIFAIS a cultural center that resulted from the entrepreneurship of a woman seeking to generate cultural proposals with the young people of La Carpio. Architecture Inverse continues the journey through Khlong Toei one of the largest self-built settlements in Bangkok. In Khlong Toei we were able to discover a great complexity and different stages of development, and in some areas we discovered a great quality in the configuration of the public and private spaces that allow to carry out multiple activities. The conditions in this settlement are much better than in other settlements we have visited in Asia. Here some photos.
